Characteristics of a Lazy Person
As such, Vlad gave the five characteristics of a lazy person shown in the Bible.
- Procrastination
Proverbs 20:4 says, “Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.”
Lazy persons do not till and plow according to the needed time. Setting work aside contributes to unfruitfulness. - Neglect of duties
Vlad referred to Proverbs 24:230-34 to prove his point.
“I went past the field of a sluggard,
past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.” - Love of sleep or excessive sleep
Proverbs 6:9-11 says, “How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.” - Making Excuses
The sluggard says, “There’s a lion outside!
I’ll be killed in the public square!” (Proverbs 22:13) - Lack of Initiative
Vlad shared, “It’s when you are reluctant to begin to work or to take initiative.”
“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” (Proverbs 10:4)
Vlad encourages believers to be diligent and overcome the temptations of being lazy. He said, “Being lazy and slothful is a vice that we need to overcome and replace with a virtue of being diligent and overcoming laziness.”
