RJ was sentenced to 20 years in prison. But now he is a former prisoner who has been leading hundreds of people to Christ.
Former Prisoner Tried To Harm Himself
In a detailed post, RJ shared his testimony. He likened it to the story of the prodigal son in the Bible.
“I knew I was going to prison, so I tried to kill myself. And then my dad showed up in a very prodigal-father way and saved me. I Got arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

“Within the first 3 days in prison, 3 men pulled knives. And said I would fight them, I would die, or I would tell the officers I needed to leave. Six months later at another prison, I had 3 more men run into my room and tell me with knives out that I would not live another week. I begged to be in protective custody until 2032 as I did not want to die. So I was transferred again,” he said.
Little did he know, it was how he would meet his Savior.
Former Prisoner Received Jesus
“One day, I went to Chapel as I felt moved to go there. I spent 45 minutes telling this chaplain (Matt) that IF God was real, which he is not, that He is mean and would not let what happened to me happen.”

“Not yet realizing I made my choice NOT GOD. That chaplain answered all of my questions and led me to the Lord. And then that Chaplain asked me to be his Assistant with a man who had served 27 years straight already and used to be a dangerous man BEFORE Christ; his name was Mike Freeman.
“After getting baptized and now serving the Lord in the chapel and praying for guys, I began to pray about what the Lord wanted me to do with my prison time. I felt in my heart a word from the Spirit say to connect the families on the outside with their loved ones inside the prison through church. I began to research prison ministries, and then I got the information for God Behind Bars and had the prison reach out, connect, and invite,” he said.
Being Used By God
RJ’s desire was answered by God through the ministry of God Behind Bars.
Furthermore, RJ was leading hundreds of people to Jesus.
“And then the next thing I know, @jake_bodine came from God Behind Bars! I got to watch families grow closer through GBB. Incarcerated fathers discipling their sons and daughters through GBB. It was amazing. I was doing more good for people locked up than I was free. Services went from 20 people to 40, to 80, to 200+ every week!
“The Lord did amazing things. I even led the man who set up the plan to have me murdered in 2014 to the Lord. And I was released, and now I speak and share the love of Jesus all over! I started a ministry called “Not My Will Ministries,” and I also wrote a book called “God Doesn’t Waste a Thing” by Pen named Luke Chance.”
